JIVE successfully hosted the 3rd EVN User Training

Published on 5 May 2025

The 3rd EVN Users Training Event was organised by JIVE's EVN support team.

JIVE successfully hosted its third online EVN User Training Event on April 29, 2025. This event built on the successful format established in 2022 and 2024. Around 70 participants from 27 different countries joined to learn about accessing and using the EVN.

The training covered several key areas: EVN basics, recent science highlights, and technical capabilities. Participants received practical advice on proposal preparation and observation scheduling. The program also highlighted opportunities for conducting transient and multi-messenger research with the EVN. Several highly interactive Q&A sessions allowed participants to address their specific questions.

The consistent international attendance demonstrates steady interest in EVN observations and confirms the usefulness of these training sessions. It is particularly rewarding that several participants from earlier trainings have progressed through the complete research cycle. They have successfully obtained observing time, completed observations, and published papers using their EVN data.

Based on the positive feedback, JIVE plans to continue offering these sessions annually. We will also expand the online training resources, complementing the existing EVN user support programs. These initiatives aim to help more astronomers incorporate VLBI techniques into their research.

The training was part of the ACME project, which has received funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme under Grant Agreement No 101131928.
