====== NEXPReS Style Guide ====== ===== Format of URL/URIs ===== When posting web links (URL/URIs) in the body of text, it is preferred to place the text inside of angle brackets inline with the text. If the link is particularly long, it should be offset from the text as a block quote. The following paragraphs show examples. This is a paragraph of nonsense with an embedded link to Google's home page < http://www.google.com/ >. You will note that it is a short link so it is left inline with the paragraph text. Additionally, the link is placed in angle brackets. If the link text is very long, it is preferred to offset the text onto a separate line, as if it were a block quote: http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:zhool8dxBV4J:www.google.com/+google&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1 This format allows for long links to be offset and line wrapped separately. This wiki nicely separates/isolates the long URLs. In Microsoft Word, one will probably have to manually indent the line *as well as* manually breaking the text of the link across multiple lines (or adjusting the hanging indent). ===== Acronyms and Spelling/Formatting ===== ^ Correct ^ wrong ^ |AARNet | | |ASTRON | | |Apertif | APERTIF | |Cm | | |CNIG-IGN | | |CSIRO | | |DANTE | Dante | |e-MERLIN | eMERLIN | |Ef | | |EXPReS | EXPRES | |EXPReS | Expres | |e-LOFAR | eLOFAR Note:better International LOFAR Telescope? | |e-VLBI | evlbi, eVLBI, EVLBI | |eVSAG | e-VSAG | |Gbps | Gb/s, Gbit/sec | |GEANT | Geant (note: there should be an accent over the 'e' | |HartRAO | | |Hh | | |iBOB | ibob, IBOB, iBoB, i-bob | |INAF | | |Jb2 |Jodrell Bank | |JIVE | | |Mbps | Mb/s, Mbit/sec | |Mc | | |MPIfR | | |MRO/TKK | | |NAIC | | |NCU/UMK | | |Nt | | |On | | |On20 | | |On25 | | |OSO | | |PSNC | | |radio * |radio-*| |radio astronomy |radio-astronomy | |radio frequency monitoring |radio-frequency monitoring | |radio monitoring |radio-monitoring | |radio telescope |radiotelescope, radio-telescope | |Sh |Shanghai | |Sheshan |Seshan | |SURFnet | | |ShAO | | |TIGO/UDEC | | |ToO | TOO | |Tr |Torun | |UniMan | | |Ur | | |Urumqi |Urumchi | |VIRAC | | |Wb1 |Westerbork | |Wb14 | | |X-ray |xray, x-ray, X-Ray | ===== Date format ===== dd Month yyyy (e.g. 1 March 2006, 29-30 January 2008, etc.) dow dd Month yyyy (e.g., Wed 29 May 2009) HH:mm (23:59) ===== Images ===== * PNG/JPG file types.
