Corona virus and JIVE operations

*Updated April 21, 2020*

Following the recommendations of the Dutch authorities, the ASTRON premises in Dwingeloo, which host JIVE, are closed until at least 20 May. The primary goal is to ensure the health and safety of the staff, who are therefore working from home.

JIVE activities continue as much as possible, which includes processing the data of the European VLBI Network, the online support of users, and the development of scientific and technical projects.

Some activities are necessarily affected: all visits and trips are cancelled. The ASTRON-JIVE traineeship programme has been cancelled for 2020. The summer student program will be held remotely. The workshop on communication for the EVN will take place online over an extended period. Moreover, the special sessions on VLBI at EAS and URSI are postponed to 2021. At present, preparations continue for some events, such as the EVN Symposium and the CASA-VLBI workshop - we will adjust these as needed.

The coronavirus continues to have a strong impact worldwide, so it is impossible to retain a mode of "business as usual". For the moment, and as much as possible, JIVE staff are maintaining all activities and projects in support of the EVN and users - this will be revised if and when it is necessary.
